Router Setup Guidance
1. Strategic PlacementCentralise the Signal: Place the router in a central, open area of your home to ensure even coverage.
Elevate the Device: Keep it 5–7 feet off the floor; routers distribute signals downward.
Avoid Interference: Keep it away from thick walls, large metal objects, and electronics like microwaves or cordless phones.
2. Physical Hardware Setup
Modem Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem’s output port to the router’s WAN (often blue or labelled "Internet") port. Power Sequence:
Turn off your modem for 30 seconds.
Power on the modem first and wait 2–3 minutes for it to stabilise.
Plug in and power on the router, waiting for its LED lights to turn solid.
Wired Configuration: For the most stable setup, connect a laptop to one of the router’s LAN (usually yellow) ports using another Ethernet cable.
3. Software Configuration
Access the Dashboard: Open a web browser and type the router's IP address (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into the address bar.
Initial Login: Use the default username and password found on the sticker at the bottom of the router.
Security Essentials:
Change Admin Credentials: Immediately replace the default admin password to prevent unauthorised access.
Set Wi-Fi Name (SSID) & Password: Create a unique network name and a strong password (at least 12 characters).
Encryption: Select WPA3 (preferred) or WPA2 for the best security.
Update Firmware: Check the "System" or "Administration" tab for firmware updates to fix bugs and improve security.
